01Tooth Gems 101

What is a tooth gem?

A small jewel set onto the surface of your tooth with a gentle, dental-grade adhesive, the same kind used for braces. No drilling. No damage. Just a refined bit of shine when you smile.

No drilling

The gem sits on the enamel and bonds with a dental-grade adhesive. Your tooth stays completely intact.

Always lead-free and body-safe

Every gem is lead-free and body-safe, chosen for purity after a lot of research, so only safe materials ever touch your enamel.

Lasts months to years

Most placements last from six months to a couple of years, and they are easy to refresh whenever you like.

Safe and reversible

Comfortable to apply, simple to remove, and no lasting mark left behind.

How a session goes

01

Consult

We talk through gems, color, and placement, and check your bite so the gem sits comfortably and only ever on natural enamel.

02

Prep

A gentle clean and prime of the tooth surface with sterile, single-use tools. No drilling, ever.

03

Place

The gem is set with a dental-grade adhesive, shaped to hold, and cured firm with a light.

04

Done

About fifteen minutes start to finish. A short set time, then back to your day.

03The gems

Materials, and why they matter

The gem is the smallest part of the work and the part that matters most. Everything that touches your enamel is chosen for purity first and sparkle second. Here is what I place, and what I never will.

Crystals

Lead-free, nickel-free crystals with a non-hotfix foil back, the kind meant to sit safely against enamel. Standard craft and nail rhinestones are different: many are set in leaded plastic or come pre-glued for fabric, and neither belongs in your mouth.

Sizes SS3 to SS4, about 1.4 to 1.6mm.

Solid gold

For something richer, solid 18k gold. It stays bright through daily wear and does not tarnish in the mouth. On canines and curved teeth I use a softer 22k for a closer, more comfortable fit.

18k and 22k only.

Shapes and charms

Beyond the classic round gem: marquise, baguette, heart, and raindrop cuts, plus fine gold charms like hearts, letters, and bespoke pieces. The same standards apply, so every piece is lead-free and mouth-safe.

Custom designs welcome.

Held to one standard

If it is not made for the mouth, it does not go in yours. A few things I leave out, on purpose.

  • Leaded craft or nail rhinestones.
  • Pre-glued hotfix crystals meant for fabric.
  • Temporary tooth tattoos, which can trap residue as they wear.
  • Sterling silver and enameled gems, better suited to jewelry worn outside the mouth.

Keeping it pristine

1

Wait about an hour before eating or drinking anything.

2

For the first day, keep to soft foods and skip hot drinks, which can soften a fresh bond.

3

Brush gently around the gem, and avoid scrubbing directly on it for 24 hours.

4

Go easy on very acidic drinks like citrus, soda, and wine, which wear at the adhesive over time.

5

Skip whitening strips and trays, since they will not reach under the gem and can loosen it.

6

Avoid biting hard or crunchy foods directly on the gem, and keep an electric toothbrush from pointing straight at it.

7

If a gem ever comes loose, keep it and message me for a quick reattach.

06Good to know

Questions, answered

No. There is no drilling and nothing invasive. Most people say it feels like a routine dental cleaning.
